When the snow arrives in the Valley of Boí.
What to do in winter if you are not a skier?
Options for everyone.
Winter in the Pyrenees is as good a time as any to get away, despite the low temperatures and the snow. However, we have many sunny days that accompany us throughout the winter!
Snowfall does not always occur at low altitudes, so you can move around with ease and visit the villages, the churches, and even do some hiking, which you'll need to adapt depending on the condition of the paths.
It’s important to check the weather forecast to be well prepared, both in terms of clothing, shoes, and the vehicle you will be traveling in, to avoid any surprises!
Go outside for outdoor activities. It will be less cold, and the sun will accompany you on your journey, whatever it may be.
Keep in mind that in winter there are fewer hours of sunlight, and you should make the most of them!
Snowshoe outing
Depending on the thickness of the snow you may find on the trails or in the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, a good option for hiking is snowshoeing, which will allow you to walk on the snow without sinking, thus discovering safely and enjoyably the nooks and marked trails you will find in the valley.
Snowshoes are suitable for everyone, from families to the most demanding hikers. The Boí Valley offers various itineraries that can be done with snowshoes.
If it's your first time, we recommend doing it with a guide, who will show you how to walk and will adapt to your pace."
Miradors
Places with spectacular views that you can mostly reach with good footwear without too much trouble.
Keep in mind that some of the paths may be icy! Check the conditions!
Explore the traditional paths.
Depending on the snow level and thickness, the traditional paths are a good option for walking and for taking a circular route between villages, or shorter routes that fit your level.
In the early hours, you will find a lower temperature, so we recommend setting out a little later to enjoy the sun. Remember that in the afternoon you will need to return earlier, as when the sun goes down, the feeling of cold will be greater. Calculate the timing of your route and let’s go walking!!!
Always wear good footwear and dress in different layers of clothing that will help you regulate your body temperature!
With your family.
If you come to spend a few days with your family, you will be able to enjoy the snow in a different way. Make the most of the mornings and go well-equipped!
With the snow, you can do all the things you don’t usually do, such as:
- Playing in the snow
- Building snowmen
- Renting a sled, if you don’t bring one, and sliding down the hill
- Making snowballs and throwing them as far as possible
A very fun family day!!!
From the age of 8-9, you can also go snowshoeing, either with a guide or on your own. It will also be a great day for everyone!
The Boí Taüll ski resort has a leisure area ideal for families, featuring a nursery service, a snow park with play equipment, donuts, and a sledding hill open on weekends and holidays
Visits, relaxation, and starlight.
When the afternoon comes, it’s time to look for other options.
We have some suggestions that will help you organize your time:
- Visit the group of Romanesque churches in the Boí Valley. Check the visiting hours so you don’t miss any of them.
- Enjoy the video mapping of the church of Sant Climent de Taüll. From 16:15 to 18:30, you have a show available.
- Visit the charming villages of the Boí Valley: Cóll, Cardet, Barruera, Durro, Erill la Vall, Boí, Taüll, and the Pla de l'Ermita."
If in the morning you have already taken a good route both in the national park and along the traditional paths, relax in front of a fireplace and enjoy the conversation with your friends, partner, or family. If the sky is clear, you will be able to enjoy the Starlight nights.
The Boí Valley is one of the 10 municipalities within the national park, where you can enjoy the experience of a clear sky for stargazing. Tourist Destination and Starlight Reserve (UNESCO). Bring warm clothing!!!
