What to do in la Vall de Boí in 4 days

Culture and nature to discover
Day 1

Morning

Aigüestortes National Park - Entrance by Aigüestortes

You have two entry options:

  1. On foot from La Palanca de la Molina parking, via the route of the otter. This is a moderate-level route taking about 2 hours one way, reaching Aigüestortes plateau, where you can also take a circular route.
  2. If you want to save these two hours, from Boí you have a taxi service that will take you directly to Aigüestortes plateau. From there, you can take an easier route to estany Llong. This route is pleasant with little elevation gain and takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes one way.

Afternoon

World Heritage Romanesque Ensemble

To visit the World Heritage Romanesque Ensemble, you can purchase tickets directly at the first church you visit and organize your visit according to your preferences.

If you buy the ticket for the 3-church ensemble, we recommend visiting:

  • Sant Climent de Taüll
  • Sant Joan de Boí
  • Santa Eulàlia de Erill la Vall
  • Santa Maria de Taüll (free entry)

If you purchase the ticket for the 5-church ensemble, in addition to the above, you can also visit:

  • Sant Feliu de Barruera
  • La Nativitat de Durro

Before visiting the churches, please check their opening hours.

We suggest starting with Sant Climent de Taüll and enjoying the video mapping. Afterward, we recommend visiting Santa Maria de Taüll, which has free entry.

Remember that Taüll is a Charming Village certified by the Catalan Tourism Agency, so take the opportunity to stroll through its streets.

During July and August, you can also visit Santa Maria de Cardet and L'Assumpció de Còll. During the rest of the year, you can admire their Romanesque architecture from the outside.

Take a walk to the Santeta viewpoint, just 10 minutes away, following a path that starts near Santa Maria church. It's an easy walk that will lead you to a spectacular viewpoint overlooking the entire valley, with the villages of Boí, Erill la Vall, and Barruera in the distance, and Cardet perched up at the end of the valley.

Day 2

Morning

The marmot route (Cavallers Reservoir - Ventosa i Calvell refuge)

It's about a slightly more demanding route, with a wild and high-mountain landscape that won't disappoint you. The marmot route takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes one way, offering spectacular views of Estany Negre (Black Lake).

To access it, you can drive to the Cavallers reservoir parking (assuming there are available spaces; otherwise, you'll need to park in Caldes de Boí and walk from there to the reservoir, adding an extra hour). Alternatively, you can contact the taxi service in Vall de Boí, which can transport you directly to the reservoir and save you this extra hour

Afternoon

Caldes de Boí thermal station

On your way down from Cavallers reservoir, you can make a stop and relax with its thermal waters and any of the services they offer.

Another option is to stroll through its gardens and take the tour to learn about the springs and all their properties. Additionally, they have an orientation circuit available for you to discover them in a more dynamic way, which you can pick up at the reception of Hotel Manantial.

Day 3

During the day

Continue with the visit to the Romanesque churches, the villages of the valley, and their viewpoints.

Today is one of those days that could be more relaxed. We suggest visiting the villages, churches, and all those viewpoints that we are sure will captivate you.

Since you've likely purchased the combined ticket to visit the churches, take today to continue with your visits.

From many villages in the valley and at a short distance, so it doesn't involve a long hike, visit these viewpoints where you'll have another perspective that complements your visit.

We recommend:

If you go to Durro, "one of the most beautiful villages in Spain," stroll through its steep streets and admire its houses and the ongoing presence of livestock. Just a few minutes from the center, about a 20-minute walk, you'll find the Romanesque hermitage of Sant Quirc de Durro, one of the best viewpoints in the valley where 3 World Heritage sites converge: The Falles, the Romanesque architecture, and the Starlight designation
